In 1967 my band The Soul Survivors scored a major hit record with "Expressway To Your Heart", written and produced by Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff. Along with a couple of other records by The Intruders, it ushered in The Sound Of Philadelphia, Philly Soul. For the next fifty plus years, I performed and sang with my brother Richie until his death in 2017. It was a difficult time, but with the support of my friends and the great guys in my band, I was able to continue with the work I love. Since then I have been performing with them, in addition to working with friends on their projects, including David Uosikkinen's "In The Pocket" and others.
I've also been involved with several recording projects, including one with my good friend and brother-in-law, Don van Winkle, but never had any thoughts of doing my own album. After several phone calls and various conversations, my long time friend and former band mate, Bobby King, convinced me that it was not only possible, but necessary. "While you're still around" is I think how he put it. So we began the selection of songs to record. Of course I wanted to include some of my favorite TSOP songs, as well as a couple of originals. I'm particularly happy we could include two previously recorded tracks with Richie and I singing together.
So for all the support I've had throughout the project, I would like to express my sincere thanks to the musicians and singers who participated, and especially to Bobby King and John Anthony for their hard work and patience. Also, for his personal encouragement, thanks to my main man "Wink".
C.I.
For Richie and Fran, and, of course, my Millie.
